It is a must-not. However, when there is a party with a non-fellow adherent and not on vegetarian days (fasting), it is acceptable to drink a little and very light alcoholic beverage to show solidarity. Being intoxicated would lead to sinfulness.
One must renounce all of those. Those who want to initiate must quit smoking before being admitted. Except for those who are sick and are advised by the medic, it is not acceptable to mix it with other ingredients.
It is absolutely prohibited; the gamblers who want to be initiated must vow to give up gambling before being admitted. In this field, no gambling is exempted.
All fellow adherents should respect the votaries who practise the right way. If they taught the right thing, you ought to listen. But, toward the votaries whose bad behaviours are well-known to you (such as rite performants…), encourage them to return to the right path of Buddhism. If they are intransigent, you must absolutely ban them and explain to the mass as well as fellow Buddhists so that they can avoid them.
On the commemorative days of Buddhas, the Full Moon or the Thirtieth, you can go to pagoda to fete, offer flowers, without being prohibited. If any pagoda is deprived or damaged, it is good that you help (you should not purchase many statues).
At the pagodas you must also respect their ways of worship and must not deride them.
TOWARD OTHER RELIGIONS AND GREATER COMMUNITY:
As for other religions, don’t touch on their methods of practising. Especially, don’t rely on the majority to bully or denigrate them. If they are offensive with you, you are not allowed to take a revenge for this reason but try to placate them. Though they do bad to you, you must always keep doing good to them without qualm and take forbearance.
Toward the general public, always harmonize with them and create a mutual empathy. Be compassionate toward them and, wherever necessary, try your best to help them.
All of you must know that I have not prescribed a hair keeping because it belongs to tradition, not to religion. I keep my hair because I want to remember our ancestors’ old tradition and to prove that I did not incur the Western civilisation’s squalor. Some of you who love your Master imitated Me once they have seen it, thus mistaking hair keeping for practice. In fact, practice is practice, hair keeping is hair keeping and, practice is not hair keeping, hair keeping is not practice. If hair keeping is not accompanied by virtue cultivation, it does not make a practicer. From now, when the French dominance is no longer, and according to the country’s cultural trends, I allow you to freely reform to fit in with the populace and other religious.
Studies do not obstruct the practice. On the contrary, they help you grasp the profound contents of religions. They avoid for you the misconceptions and renounce superstitions. They enable you to discard fallacies, chimera (prophesy, for example).
Thus, take a self-directed education (e.g. national language…) and let your children attend the school to broaden their knowledge. Moreover, scientific knowledge does not prevent practice and, instead, allow for a more thorough research in Buddhism.
Dear our fellow adherents, male or female, must keep yourselves fit and healthy. As such, play the sports suitable for your health, because a shrewed mind only exists in a healthy body. In this sense, you can accomplish your moral obligations more effectively.
TAKING CARE OF ONE’S BODY:
The practicer’s diet must be moderate. Avoid the delicious dishes cooked with unhealthy ingredients which, once eaten, can cause diseases.
Keep your bodies clean, including the dining room, bed room, and other places of the house. Renounce dirty eating habits, because, if your bodies are not clean, your minds cannot develop and, because the Saints and Deities only stay close to the clean people. Thus, if anyone wishes to receive blessing, they must be clean physically as well as mentally.
MAKING A LIVING:
Working is based on what the Eightfold Noble Path has taught:-Renounce the immoral thing, such as cheating, misleading, speculation, alcohol sales and drug trafficking… Take appropriate careers, without deception, and racketeering.
Those who are interested in take refuge in our Faith must be referred by two senior fellow adherents who have a good character, to the chairperson of the Village Committee of Management. The latter shall read all the rules of practice for the prospective adherent, asking if the latter will observe the vows as described and precepts of the faith. If they do, ask them to report to their grand parents and parents, or pray before the Ancestral altar, that: On the … day…….month…..I accept to take refuge in the faith. Afterwards, the Head of the Committee hands this booklet over to them. Wherever there is no Committee of Management, the two referring adherents must give the new one an induction, then take him or her to the closest Committee. They do not have to make an Oath because practicers interested in practising only rely on their own vows. When they do not want to keep the Faith, they must notify the referring adherents to have their names removed. No one in the Faith is allowed to declare themselve this Faith’s adherents without having observed its rules. The perpetrators, no matter they have asked or have not for cancelling their Faith membership, are held responsible for their acts and are considered non-adherents by the Faith.
Remember: Buddha will guide and support those who undertake decent careers according to His teachings. Buddha never supports racketeers, those who do cruel and lawless things against His preachings.
