Referring to Quy Y, in one of His sermons, “Advice to My Fellow Adherents”, written in Bac Lieu in 1942, Lord Master explained thus: “You have now awakened to take refuge in Buddha Dharma. As such, you have met the path to immortality and, with your acumen, keep away from worldliness and opulence but seek for a tranquil place. However pious you were, you have not well understood how to go about it. Let’s elaborate the word “to take refuge”. It means ‘to return’, but where to? To Buddha’s gate. ‘Refuge’ is a set of principles which are to be adhered to. So, ‘to take refuge’ in Buddha is lean on Buddha’s gate and adhere to His teachings. As Buddha is compassionate, so too shall we be. As He practised and got fully enlightened then taught us, so too shall we do. If your Master exhorts you what is rightful, you should obey Him. Most importantly, you observe all his precepts daily."

If you take refuge, you must commit to it,
and compassionately assist.
