The No-Action Tao is the core of Buddhism,
Based on Lord Shakyamuni’s tradition.
Lord Buddha never worries about His luxury,
The Bodhi resembles a conifer tree.
If you keep nurturing this word in your mind,
You may guess the miracular fruit of this trial.
Our preachings are not for self and others divide,
But to emphasize that all own Buddha-nature.
Regard these stanzas as jewels,
As if a seed burgeoned under a propitious rainfall.
If the weather suits it, whatever its breed is,
Marvelously it will germinate and grow leaves.
We expect you to get to the bottom of things,
Only the Pure Land returnees will stop suffering.
From now on, there will be varied religions,
You must carefully select the one to depend on.
If you choose the right Tao to venerate,
Your next life will receive a noble grade.
Have a look into Buddhism for its rationale,
And ponder why one has to cultivate oneself.
Loving you, We’ve told you all from our head,
Urging you to do the good and avoid the bad.
Nirvana is your final destination,
Once there, you stay away from the earthy region.
Though not transcending, you may become a god,
Owing to your loyalty as a patriot.
On the Gathering, those who survive will be known,
Now the wrong and the right have not yet been shown. ‘
Under the decree from the Jade Emperor,
At the Vulture’s Peak we received the order.
We have taught everything about ethics,
But the laity is still fussy in semantics.
This makes Us ponder if we laugh or cry,
We cry for the ignorant whom We pitify.
They thought we as though cold iron,
They disdain Us for not fighting on.
Toward the West We recite compassion,
While chuckling at the lay being too foolish.
Are We fighting for rice and fish?
Or are We enticing people for money?
We are envied by people for no reason,
Who keep deriding the devout person.
To pratice or not, We will not entreat you,
Whether or not you respect us or boo.
We pity those who are still self-immersed!
They should practice to get well-versed.
When they see Us, they are sarcastic,
Whatever they say, We give no heed.
The world will see the dancing phoenix,
Which sweeps wings to greet Holy Spirits.
You see morality instead of your nature,
Still hiding in the heart and brain of your creature.
Those who know the right thing should go ahead,
One will later find out who is Saint or Laic.
Few dare challenge Lord the Sixth Patriarch,
Who, albeit illiterate, was too Dharma articulate.
Why to stress the importance of high education?
Those being insightful will get the Tao revelation.
Mastering fairy tales is not necessary,
What use is it to tell the past story.
If you know about self-cultivating,
Right concentration makes you self-revealing .
For your sake we write out the Scriptures,
To urge both votaries and followers.
Actively listen till the end without any doubt,
Probe and practice, and you will get the Tao.
The worldlings tend to be too proud,
You, the monks, must try to improve yourselves.
As ordained, try to keep your five precepts well .
Practise rightfully to prevent your being disreputed.
For a thousand years, people have been agitated,
For none of the practicers have succeeded.
As cultivation is linked with its deed,
Wrongdoings are what makes the people speak.
As votaries crave pagodas with Buddha statues.
They raise funds exploring all venues.
By no means Buddhas want gilded statues,
Yet the monks created them at high public expenses.
From now on, you should avoid such pretenses,
Co-believers! Improve yourselves with efforts.
We’ve spent too much time teaching the world,
This failing, your lives will be a whole wastage.
You tend to ignore Our truthful messages,
But you always want to bully the virtuous.
This has made the Jade Emperor dolorous,
And to want to punish the world severely.
The Patriarch Buddha is sturdy,
Asking His Majesty to let Him to launch a mission.
Thus He released his Oracles on occasions,
To which yet the worldlings paid no heed.
A lay person resembles a thorny stick,
If he keeps being good, it will be worn out.
Chip and flatten it, and it finally becomes round,
Then one day, it looks superb.
Fraudulent hordes often use swearwords,
Without holding Deities in awe at all.
The rogues are intransigent in their rehearsal,
And never fear carrying their demerits.
We hate the practicers who cheat,
Paying lip service to almsgiving activities.
